What does ‘crisis-affected children and adolescents’ mean?
In the ECW 2023 report, where many of these statistics come from, a crisis is defined by the INFORM Severity Index (ISI) value greater than 2 for more than three months. Children and adolescents included in the report are aged 3 through the end of secondary school age, spanning a 37-month period from February 2020 to March 2023. The ISI serves as a standardized tool to assess and compare crisis severity globally, ensuring that humanitarian responses are equitable and targeted.
